Great Caesar's Goat

Original Americana with exceptional songwriting, a superior rhythm section, and amazing licks on a pair of beat up Gretsch’s is what you will hear from Great Caesar’s Goat.  The band has years of professional experience behind them, its members sharing stages with the likes of Gary Clark Jr, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, and Little Feat just to name a few.  They bring a polished, edgy and professional show to every stage…  Big or Small.

The “Goats” have deep roots in the Texas Hill Country.  Founded by two songwriters, Chris Patterson and Spencer Braly, the pair both spent their time in the bars and music clubs of Austin working on their craft.  The pair became fast friends when they ran into each other in a bar in Ames, IA.  Within weeks the two began writing and Great Caesar’s Goat was born.  They sought out the best rhythm section central Iowa had to offer and soon drummer Todd Cumming and bassist Greg Bruna were recruited to join the duo and round out the band.

The band describes its music as Americana Rock and Roll from the Heartland…  A strong mix of rock and roll and country with a focus on storytelling.  Patterson and Braly work hard to craft their songs and deliver visual images through their music.

Great Caesar’s Goat and/or its members have played in venues and festivals across the country including the Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN; the Continental Club in Austin, TX, IOTA in Arlington, VA; The Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington, DC; The Goldfinch Room in CY Stephens in Ames, IA; Davey’s Uptown Rambler in Kansas City , MO; Nissan Pavillion in Bristow, VA; SXSW in Austin, TX; DC 101 Music Festival in Washington, DC; Americana Music Festival  in Dewey Beach, DE;  80/35 Festival in Des Moines, IA;  and Hinterland in St. Charles, IA.

Great Caesar’s Goat comes to play…  Their setlist varies with each show but consists mostly of originals which the band can choose from over 100 Patterson and Braly penned tunes along with an occasional cover that has been “Goatified”.

Goatfeathers

Goatfeathers is the dynamic songwriting and storytelling acoustic duo of Chris Patterson and Spencer Braly.

Chris is a smalltown singer-songwriter who’s lived and played all over the US and Europe playing venues like The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, SXSW and The Americana Music Festival. He writes songs about the road he’s traveled and the many, many people he’s met along the way. He’s prolific and thoughtful, while giving light to the darkness that lives in us all.

Spencer is a Texas-born, Iowa-based singer songwriter. Blending the storytelling he learned from years in barrooms, attitude from time in punk bands and a sense of humor about 2 shades darker than grey, Spencer writes songs about love and death, scars and lies, busted hearts and sad goodbyes.

Spencer and Chris have been playing music together for almost 8 years, co-leading the Americana rock band Great Caesar’s Goat and writing hundreds of songs together.

Chris Patterson Solo

Chris Patterson served as the frontman and songwriter for the Washington, DC based LEAVING, TX for over a decade, release three critically acclaimed albums before relocating  to Austin, TX in the fall of '09 to focus on songwriting and crafting his acoustic show.

Chris joined up with Spencer Braly in 2003 to form Great Caesar's Goat where the two share songwriting duties and vocals for the Iowa based band.

Leaving, TX

Formed in late 2004 by songwriter Chris Patterson and bassist Garry Cecil, Leaving,TX rapidly came to life in the Washington, DC music scene… Quickly and rightfully earning comparisons to Drive By Truckers, Steve Earle, and Reckless Kelly just to name a few. The bands driving alt-country sound is anchored by its original songs which seem to fill fans with hooks they just can’t seem to get out of their heads. Patterson is a self-taught musician who after leaving the jam-band Grooved Pavement spent the next 18 months studying and writing. During this time he spent many nights on the local singer-songwriter circuit finding out which songs were working with the audience. After a visit to Austin, TX he came back with the desire to finally build the band that would showcase his music.

Patterson soon contacted bass player Garry Cecil and played several of the new tunes for him. The magic was immediate and the two set out to find the rest of the band. Thor Smith was soon brought in to fill the role of drummer, having done the same in Patterson’s former band. After several auditions with guitarists, Andrew Buhler showed up on the band’s doorstep and after one song together, he was brought into the mix and given his own keys to the city.
